Gift Suggestions for Dogs, Dog Owners, Dog Lovers, and Dog Friends

Welcome to the Maltastic Marketplace!

Yep I'm a Reindeer

The holiday season is upon us and here at West Coast Dogs we’ve been making our Christmas lists, and checking them twice.

We thought it’s never to early to offer up some gift suggestions, so we consulted with a few experts, big dogs, small dogs, young dogs and old dogs and have come up with the following wish lists.  We’ve tried to cover ever situation, thoughtful gifts, fun gifts, items that don’t need to cost a lot to have a big impact, and even some useful and practical gifts.

Charlie Brown Christmas Collar and Leash Set

For the Stylish Dog:

A matching collar and leash set is always a great idea.  Our favourite is the Charlie Brown Christmas collar available from Rescue Me Collars.  In fact, we liked this so much that we started using it again in September, it’s got great bright colours and when people take a closer look everyone smiles as they remember the Charlie Brown Christmas story, and his sad little tree.

For the Diva Dog:

A super comfy cushy bed.  Or, some designer duds.  Consider the climate when selecting clothes, that heavy knit sweater may not work for the dog in Hawaii but could be a blessing for the little pup up north.

For the Active Dog:

A knapsack is an excellent idea.  This is ideal for the helpful dog, the hyper dog and those dogs with lazy humans who don’t want to carry all the treats and waste bags.

For the Environmentally Conscious Dog:

Check out these eco-friendly poop bags, they’d be a great gift for that neighbor whose dog always seems to find his way into to YOUR yard.

For the Dirty Dog:

Check out Kurgo.com our favourite product is the backseat cover, we’ve had ours for a few years now and it’s still keeping our cream seats cream, and has stood up to the muddy paws and sharp claws of both Tiggy and Holly.

For the Young Pup:

Toys!  Squeaky toys, bouncy toys, durable toys.  If you’re buying for a friend and assume their dog has everything, remember with the younger or more active dog, toys wear out.  Squeakers stop squeaking and stuffing somehow ‘falls’ out.  Replacements are always welcome.

For the creative dog:

Consider a plaster paws kit.  We made one a few months back and loved the result.  This is a fabulous keepsake, and a great idea for the older dogs on your list.  We found ours at the dollar store.

For the dog owners/former dog owners/wannabe dog owners:

If you are shopping for someone with a very ‘vocal’ dog, consider this inexpensive red can of silence, otherwise known as Pet Corrector.  Priced at around $10-$12 this is an affordable yet thoughtful gift.

For the owner of a shelter/rescue dog, consider a donation to a local rescue organization.  It doesn’t need to be the shelter where the dog came from, the owners will simply appreciate that your gift will help an organization that takes care of pets.  Here are some suggested organizations that we like:

Glowno Animal Asylum in Poland

Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue

Richmond Animal Protection Society

Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas

Another unique option for the pet owner who may not currently have a pet at home, perhaps they lost a beloved pet recently and aren’t ready to adopt again.  You can ‘virtually’ foster a dog in their name.  Check out the sites above for more information.

Still undecided, visit your local book store, a book we’re reading right now is called “Your Dog is Your Mirror” by Kevin Behan, not your typical dog book, this is a good one for the ‘thinkers’ on your list.  Once we’ve finished it we’ll post our review for everyone to check out.  If you don’t want to wait, follow our Amazon link and order it directly.

  1. Oh Tiggy! What a fabulous group of suggestions! We think we’ll have all our shopping done in no time! And, we have used many of these products ourselves and really hope Santa Paws brings us more ( ok, we don’t want Santa to bring more of the Pet Corrector, but we hear it is on Mom’s list).

  2. I’ll show your suggestions to Fetzer and Opus. I’m sure they’ll find something they “need”!

  3. Thanks for the shout out, Tigs!!

  4. Tiggy! You suggested the PET CORRECTOR!? OMD – We HATE IT at our house! Our Mommy LOVES it because it makes us “stop our foolishness!” But Tiggy…how could you????????

  5. Some great Christmas gift suggestions there Tiggy! We better get started on our Christmas wish list…Mums got some shopping to do!! :)

  6. Hello! Is you guys’ Mom back um…. well, you know. I didn’t want to publish your letter until I was sure you could get to read it!

  7. Thanks so much for the suggestions. Now, how about a list of things that Mindy Lou can get for me?

  8. We have rubber dog collars that are ready to order for Christmas on our site. Our collars are different then anything else in the industry because they accept shoe charms. This allows owners to be creative, and choose how their collar looks. They are also very durable, waterproof, and don’t smell like other collars.
