Excursion – Downtown Vancouver

Today we went on an excursion to downtown Vancouver.

It took about 50minutes to get there because of all the road construction. Mostly I sat nicely in the backseat, okay, well maybe I didn’t, but my brother Tiggy did. I like to perch on the console between the two front seats, I think it’s good exercise for strengthening my core.

is there a dogter in the house?

We arrived in Yaletown, found parking and started our walk. A few minutes later we found ourselves at the grand opening of a pet store called Bosley’s. There was a nice lady there who was teaching people about pet first aid. She taught us about what to do if your dog gets a cut, a bee sting or heat stroke. Tiggy was a demo dog and let SarahMum wrap his head in bandages. He looked silly.

After that we walked along by the water in an area called False Creek. We stopped to take a photo, in the background is Science World and over to the right is the Athelete’s Village from the Vancouver, 2010 Winter Olympics.

Our next stop was at Roger’s Arena. This is home to our favourite National Hockey League team, the Vancouver Canucks. Sadly, last week the team lost one of it’s former players due to suicide. His name was Rick Rypien and he was only 27yrs old. We stopped at the memorial that fans have created and read all of the signs.  It was very sad.

Afterwards, we continued our walk into town, passing by the edge of chinatown and the lower east side.

Finally we convinced the humans that we would like to have a break. We went to Starbucks and me and Tigs had some water and then shared an apple. It was fun being out in the city, except for all of the people who wanted to touch me. We sat beside a lady who insisted on taking photos of me and Tiggy. We listened to a karaoke competition and watched zombies walk by.

The zombies were in town for the zombie parade. Seems kinda crazy, people dress up in tattered and torn clothing and blacken their eyes and put fake blood dripping down the arms and legs. We walked over to the art gallery where they were all gathering. SarahMum and Tigs had a photo taken with some of them.

ZOMBIES!

We walked around to the front of the art gallery and sat for a photo on the steps. Then we went to check out this ‘thing’ called Picnurbia. It’s some sort of functional art piece that the city has installed for the summer. It is described as an artificial beach area for people to visit, eat, sleep, sit…I wanted to try it out, even though the sign says that dogs are not allowed.

By this time we’d been out for over three hours and were ready to head home. We walked down through town back to wear we had begun. All in all I had a nice day and enjoyed this downtown excursion.

  5. Usually Sarah needs first aid and bandages.

  6. Oh! At first look, we thought the bandages were a little sun protection hat. It’s always good to know first aid, whether for anipals or humans. Vancouver certainly has a lot of interesting things to do. We’re glad you and Tigs and your mom had fun. And it sounds like you got lots of good exercise, too. Maybe you can come to California sometime and visit San Francisco. Lots of stuff to do there, too! Love & loud purring from RainbowCats
