Black Dog Bio – Zoey the Wee Chi
Zoey is a both a proud and a courageous black dog.
She has been a happy member of her family for her entire three years of life.
Zoey tells me that she is the exact opposite of mean and aggressive, so I think that’s her humble way of telling us she’s nice and sweet and maybe even a bit timid?
Her family has a history of owning black dogs and once upon a time they were proud owners of a large black Great Dane who was also very good dog of exceptionally sweet temperament.
Zoey tells us that she’s most special (and we tend to agree) because she is a survivor of Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, otherwise known as IMHA. IMHA occurs when the immune system attacks its own red blood cells at a much faster rate that they are produced. It is a very scary and life threatening condition. There were many days when Zoey was hospitalized and her family and friends were sick with worry thinking that her little body wasn’t going to pull through.
Zoey and her family credit her surival to the selfless efforts a particularly special pitbull named Prophet (and particularly special pitbull owner) who donated blood and ultimately saved Zoey’s life. We too are very thankful to this kind and generous human and dog.
When I asked Zoey about the link between fur colour and bad behavior, she felt obligated to set the record straight and let me know that her fur sibling sister is very fair-haired, and very pushy. She went on to tell us that her fur sibling brother who is tan in colour is very nippy (my Tiggy can relate, he is a fawn-coloured nippy fur sibling of his own).
Zoey tells us that she loves her pupperoni treats and that her greatest skill is her ability to roll over on her back thus exposing her tummy for attention. She loves her belly rubs and paws at her humans when they try to stop before she is ready.
When it comes to being black Zoey and her humans can’t find anything negative to say. The only drawback that Zoey can see is that she gets very hot when she’s out in the sun.
Thank you for sharing your story with us Zoey, and setting a good example for people considering getting a black dog of their own.
No sign of Black Dog Syndrome in this house either.

Hi Zoey Bear!!
My friend Zoey is da sweetest little ball of fur in the world! I remember being so worried when she was so sick….and how happy we were that she found that awesome dog, Mr. Prophet.
Just like they say…..good things come in small packages! But watch out for Lily.
Love, George

Oh, and KC is CRAZY about her!
Being that my own dog was an IMHA survivor, I was very proud when Zoey best the odds and survived. I simply love Zoey, but probably not as much as KC does!!
